AMY RICHARDS
Amy is an author, producer and feminist activist. Creator of Feminist Camp, Founder of Soapbox: Speakers Who Speak Out and Cofounder of Third Wave Foundation, Amy’s work centers on creating communities and elevating feminist voices and ideas.
In addition to running Soapbox, Inc., Amy also consults to many organizations and initiatives. She produced the Emmy nominated series WOMAN for Viceland and executive produced The Glorias, among other stage and video projects. She was also a consulting producer on the HBO documentary Gloria Steinem: In Her Own Words and an advisor to PBS documentary on the women’s movement in America, MAKERS: Women Making America. She recently authored We Are MAKERS, a book based on the PBS documentary series MAKERS. Amy also works closely with Gloria Steinem on her writings.
Amy co-founded and spent several years leading the Third Wave Foundation, a national organization for young feminist activists, which continues today as the Third Wave Fund. Amy’s leadership and visionary work launched her as a primary spokesperson and leading voice for contemporary feminist issues. She lectures at dozens of venues each year and contributes, though her writings and appearances in a range of media including Charlie Rose, Fox’s The O’Reilly Factor, Oprah, Talk of the Nation, New York One and CNN.
Her books include: Manifesta: Young Women, Feminism and the Future, Opting In: Having a Child Without Losing Yourself, and We are MAKERS. She is on the board of Collective Power and a core member of The Meteor. A graduate of Barnard College, Amy has called New York City home for more than three decades. She’s a four time marathoner and a former D1 soccer player.
